This former 15th century palace, completed in 2008, has been converted into an excellent luxury hotel after a long period of restoration that lasted 5 years. The palace was owned by the noble Conti Gattini family of Matera. In pre-18th century times, the palace was a convent; in fact, one of the Junior suites has a Renaissance portal that linked the palace to the pontifical court. Cream is the predominant shade in the hotel because it is the color of the calcareous rock that dominates the landscape of Matera and practically all the houses in the area are built with this type of rock. The colors of the furnishings range from black and gray to cream, but each room offers the contrast of splendid silk curtains in orange, blue and mustard green. The hotel has a prestigious wine shop located in the old cellars and also has a spectacular cheese dairy where the nobles left their cheese to mature. This room is today a very special showcase for the typical products of Lucania. The charming, air-conditioned establishment offers 20 rooms and a lobby with 24-hour reception and check-out service.
