Vila Gale Douro Vineyards

With a breathtaking view over the Douro River and the Tedo River, it is in the heart of the Douro wine region that the Vila Galé Douro Vineyards is located. With a strong agricultural and wine tourism component, this unit extends along the centuries-old Quinta do Val Moreira estate, which was already present in the famous map of Baron Forrester, created in the 19th century, and which earned him the reputation of a cartographer. On the south bank of the Douro River, near the picturesque village of Marmelal, the accommodation where Vila Galé Douro Vineyards is located is very close to one of the two stone markers built by order of the Marquis of Pombal in 1757. These markers are classified as accommodation of public interest and were used to demarcate the area of the fortified Douro wines, which at that time were under the jurisdiction of the General Agricultural Company of the Alto Douro Vineyards (Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro). Thus was born the world's first demarcated wine region. Today, the terraced vineyards make the landscape surrounding this unit/agrotourism/enotourism unique.
