Guide to the best neighborhoods in Bangkok

Bangkok is huge and has very different areas. Choosing the right neighborhood to stay in will directly influence the kind of experience you will have. Here we explain what you can really expect in each area.

Sathorn: balance between modernity and authenticity

Silom and Sathorn form Bangkok's financial district, but don't be fooled: when night falls, the area changes completely.

During the day you will find skyscrapers, executive hotels and international restaurants. By night, night markets, rooftops with spectacular views and a lively dining scene appear. It is an area very well connected thanks to the BTS and MRT.It is also relatively relatively close to the river and the historic center.

Siam: the commercial and urban heart

Siam is the heart of modern Bangkok. Here are the big shopping malls (MBK, Siam Paragon, CentralWorld), cinemas, international restaurants and good transport connections.

It is a very practical area if it is your first time in the city, as it is in the heart of the city. in the city, as it is midway between Sukhumvit, Silom and other key areas. Hotels here tend to be modern and well equipped. It is not the most "authentic" area in cultural terms, but it is one of the most comfortable for a short stay. for a short stay.

Khao San Road: backpacker atmosphere and 24-hour life

Khao San Road is famous all over the world for being the backpacker district of Southeast Asia. Here you will find hostels, budget hotels, lively bars and travellers from all continents.

It is a fun and very social area, but also noisy. If you are looking for absolute quiet, it is not the best choice. However, it is close to the Grand Palace and other important temples, which can be handy if you want to focus your visit on historical Bangkok.

The Historical Center (Rattanakosin): culture and temples on foot

If you want to know the most monumental Bangkok, Rattanakosin is the perfect area. Here you will find the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and many of the most important temples in the country.

It is a quieter quieter area, with fewer skyscrapers and more traditional architecture. The atmosphere is more leisurely, especially when night falls. The only drawback is that it is not as well connected by BTS or MRT as other areas as other areas, so you will rely more on cabs.

If you are travelling with your family, you will like to know the family hotels in Bangkok: they are establishments designed for the enjoyment of children and parents. In addition, there are also hotels with Water Water Slides in Bangkok that will delight children. If, on the other hand, your idea is to enjoy a holiday without children, you will also be interested to know that there are adults only hotels in Bangkok. Skytrain (BTS) and Subway (MRT)

They are fast, inexpensive and avoid traffic. If your hotel is near a station, your experience will be much more convenient. The BTS connects key areas such as Sukhumvit, Siam and Silom.

Public boats

If you are staying near the river, boats are an efficient and interesting way to get around. of getting around. They connect the historic center with other areas and avoid traffic jams. They also offer a different perspective of the city.

Why download Grab or Bolt before you arrive?

What you should know before leaving the hotel

Therefore, before leaving the hotel to visit temples, markets or historical neighborhoods, it is important to take into account some basic rules that will help you to have the utmost respect.

Dress code at temples

If you plan to visit temples, you should pay attention to dress code. In places like the Grand Palace or Wat Pho, you are not allowed to enter with clothes considered inappropriate. Avoid shorts, skirts above the knee, sleeveless shirts or plunging necklines.. Ideally wear:

  • Covered shoulders
  • Knees covered
  • Shoes easy to remove (in many temples you must take off your shoes).

Tip: Always carry a large scarf or light shirt in your backpack to cover yourself if necessary. This can save you from having to rent clothes at the entrance.

Respect for the Monarchy and the rules of social behavior

In Thailand, respect for the royal family is a serious matter.. Criticism of the monarchy is punishable by law. As a visitor, simply avoid political commentary and show respect when viewing images of the king or the national anthem (which is played in public spaces at certain times).

As for social behavior:

  • Don't touch another person's head (it is considered the most sacred part of the body).
  • Avoid pointing with your feet or leaning them on furniture or tables.
  • Keep a moderate moderate tone of voice in public spaces.

Must-see places near you

One of the great things about Bangkok is that there is always something interesting within walking distance of your hotel. Depending on the area where you stay, you can organize very complete routes without crossing the whole city. Here are some must-see tours.

The Golden Triangle: Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun

If you have chosen hotels in Bangkok near the historic center or by the river, this is the essential tour:

  • Grand PalaceThe Grand Palace: former home of the kings of Siam and one of the most impressive architectural complexes in Southeast Asia.
  • Wat Phofamous for its gigantic reclining Buddha and considered the cradle of traditional Thai massage.
  • Wat Arunlocated on the other side of the river, it is especially spectacular at sunset.

You can visit them in a morning or afternoon, combining walking and boat crossing on the Chao Phraya.

From Chinatown (Yaowarat) to Chatuchak Market

If you like the gastronomy and local atmosphereyou can not miss Chinatown (Yaowarat). During the day it is bustling, but at night it transforms into one of the best places in the world for tasting street food and Chinese street food.

Frequently asked questions about hotels in Bangkok

Before booking hotels in Bangkok it is normal to have doubts. The city is big, the traffic can be heavy and the hotel options are very varied. Here we will answer the most common questions to help you make the best decision.

Is it better to stay near the river or near the Skytrain?

It depends on your travel style.

  • Stay near the river (Riverside) is ideal if you are looking for tranquility, spectacular views and luxury hotels. Many offer private boat service to BTS stations, which compensates for less direct connection to the subway.
  • However, if you prioritize fast and economical mobility, it is more practical to choose a hotel close to the Skytrain (BTS) or the Subway (MRT). Being just a few minutes walk from a station will save you time and avoid depending on traffic.

Our advice: if it's your first time in Bangkok, prioritize proximity to the BTS.

Which hotels have the best infinity pools?

Bangkok is famous for its rooftop pools overlooking the skyline. Many upper-mid-range and luxury hotels include Infinity Pools on rooftops with spectacular panoramic views.

The best are usually found in:

  • Riverside Zonewith views of the Chao Phraya River
  • Silom and Sathorn, with urban views of skyscrapers
  • Sukhumvitwhere high-rise pools with modern ambience predominate.

If the pool is important to you, check well the actual photos and orientation (some receive direct sun only part of the day).

How to get from Suvarnabhumi airport to my hotel cheaply?

You have several options, but the most economical one is the Airport Rail Linka train that connects the airport with the center in about 30 minutes. From there you can connect with the BTS or MRT.

If your hotel is far away from stations, you can combine train + short cab. You can also use Grab or Bolt directly from the airport. It is more comfortable than a traditional cab and avoids negotiations.

Approximate time to the center is 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

Is it safe to walk around Bangkok at night?

Yes, Bangkok is a safe city for tourists. The most popular areas such as Sukhumvit, Silom or Siam are crowded until well into the early hours of the morning.

But, as in any big city it is advisable to use common senseAvoid dimly lit alleys, do not show large amounts of money and use reliable transportation at night.

Do hotels in Bangkok ask for a deposit at check-in?

Yes, most hotels in Bangkok ask for a security deposit at check-in. It can be:

  • A temporary blocking on a credit card
  • A cash payment to be returned at check-out

As you can see, Bangkok is a city to be experienced with all the senses: golden temples, street markets, skyscrapers and infinity pools. At Amimir.com you will find the best offer of hotels in Bangkok for you to enjoy an unforgettable holiday.

Enjoy your next adventure in Thailand!

Stay far away from this service…
Stay far away from this service as possible. I searched google maps for hotels and I ended up selecting a hotel that Amimir was partners with. The price was enticing. After paying with google pay, the day before my trip, they send me an email stating that their compliance department needed me to upload an image of my credit card and passport, otherwise they were going to keep my money and cancel the reservation. I've never had to upload such documents ever with any online travel sites. This felt like a scam. So I called my credit card company and they advised me not to upload personal data and image of my credit card. In addition, I asked Chatgpt and the response was alarming. It said that it most certainly is a scam. I have a feeling that even if I complied and shared my personal data, they would have rejected it like many others that have reported the same experience here. They create a sense of urgency by presenting the issue the day before the trip. Seems like a pattern based on what I've read. It's very surprising that they are still in business and that the authorities have not shut them down. My credit card company said that they will stand behind me 100% to dispute the charges.

I give this site a big fat zero
I give this site a big fat zero I was searching for a hotel and I came across magnificent Mile downtown Chicago. I picked the dates 29th 30th 31st and the price came out to $39. Once I paid my money to book the stay they send me confirmation and at bottom it say you will have to pay $245.89 for a resort fee wtf you mean a resort fee that wasn't started before I paid my money

Excellent
Very easy and clear process to book an hotel in Rome. I found the cheapest option here compared to other booking platforms. It was very clear that there were tourist taxes to be paid directly to the hotel while it wasn't that clear on other booking platforms. Excellent experience overall.

I also believe that the intermediary agency is partly responsible for the issues experienced at the hotel. The payment had already been made and transferred to the agency, but it seems that the agency either failed to inform the hotel or did not complete the payment to the hotel. This issue should have been resolved well in advance, not left until the last day, the last hours, or even the following day. Such situations must be handled promptly to prevent inconvenience for guests.
